Atypical problems of 1.9 TDI engines are oil leaks, especially from under the valve cover. It is made of plastic and due to high mileage and high temperature, it deforms after years. This causes oil leaks. It also has an integrated crankcase ventilation valve, the so-called pneumothorax and appears only as an original product. It costs about $170.. #2. Re EGR Valve removal/cleaning. I have changed loads, the amount of work involved is not worth the hassle of trying to clean them, most failures are the electronic valve operation. Not clogged with soot, the only option I would recommend is a new 1 from tps about £300, I wouldn't bother getting 1 from factors or ebay as they don't come

I've attached an image of the EGR on my car (just realised how dirty the engine cover is) and as you can see there's a fresh oil leak coming from it.
